Long Trail 70
Design collaboration
The Long Trail backpack has been a product at Eastern Mountain Sports for many years. In its history quite a few designers have brought their vision to this pack.
I feel honored to have been a part of the team that brought this newest version to production. After evaluating the pack for the re-dux, we decided on keeping the pack bag similar to the latest version with a few “upgrades, and to improve on a clever hipbelt system that evolved as a result of collaborative efforts.
I spent most of my time designing new shoulder straps, and the backpanel suspension system. The sole purpose was to lighten up the weight of the bag, but also to make the sizing adjustment “pain” free (ie. sans the evil velcro on the shoulder harness). Sourcing new materials to make the pack more comfortable, slide free, and overall more breathable was a big part of the task. We also added a handy integrated pack cover. A women’s specific version was recently designed and should be out soon.
The video below focuses on many of these new features.
