Sector 28
While choosing materials and making design decisions, lightweight functionality and comfortable fit were my primary concerns for the Sector backpack line. Trying to determine what was essential and necessary allowed me to focus on the features that matter most to the "light and fast" user as well as allowing for cleaner construction that reduced cut/sew costs. "The ability to simplify means to eliminate the necessary so that the necessary may speak." ~Hans Hoffman To see the 42 Liter version and more on the design process click here Factory Partnership Understanding factory procedures and ...
Sargent
The Sargent was one of 6 daypacks I designed for Eastern Mountain Sports. After researching the current line of daypacks and looking at the comp set, it was collaboratively decided in the design brief what the price points and features of each pack would be.A part of the challenge was to give different identities to each pack to allow for a variety of consumer choices. In order to assure competitive costing packs were designed to share shoulder strap patterns and materials. To see the other daypacks in the line please click ...
Women’s Fenway
Sometimes it takes a woman to design a women's pack. Simple, clean design aesthetic without crazy prints, amazonian symbols, or rhinestone bedazzle-ments. And it's not pink. Interior is fully featured, with a clever water bottle holster, mesh zipper pockets, pen/phone slots, and key hook.Exterior has a hidden zipper compartment for an ipad or e-reader that is easy to access when bag is slung from one shoulder. Small exterior slot pocket on the face of the pack, and women's specific padded shoulder straps complete the pack feature ensemble. Did I say ...
Long Trail 70
The Long Trail backpack has been a product at Eastern Mountain Sports for many years. In its history quite a few designers have brought their vision to this pack. I feel honored to have been a part of the team that brought this newest version to production. After evaluating the pack for the re-dux, we decided on keeping the pack bag similar to the latest version with a few "upgrades, and to improve on a clever hipbelt system that evolved as a result of collaborative efforts.I spent most of my ...
Colden Daypack
The Colden is the most hike specific of the daypack line. Therefore it has many hike features such as: a padded, comfortable back panel, adjustable sternum strap, removable hip belt, breathable shoulder straps, front shov-it pocket, and is 2L hydration compatible. In addition, the Colden also makes a good campus bag with its interior padded laptop sleeve, ipad specific slot, and secure side pockets that (when left open) can hold a 20 oz. Klean Kanteen water bottle/coffee mug. More daypacks The Colden and Sargent were just two of the 6 daypacks I ...
Wapack 60
I remember my first multi-day backpack like it was yesterday. In fact, you can read a bit about it on my "about" page. The Wapack was designed and priced to be just that- someone's first. Large enough to be the perfect Philmont carry. There is also a Wapack 50, designed for smaller torsos.I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with designer Jeff Lynch on the initial design concept phase. The pack bag front is, without a doubt, greatly inspired by the iconic Dana Designs, Terraplane. For an interesting read, ...
Sector 42
The 42 is the largest of the Sector series. It shares the same design aesthetic and attention to materials as the other Sector packs. For more information on the initial design process please see the Sector 28. In addition to the larger size, what differentiates the 42 is it's adjustable harness that fits torsos from 17"-20". The 42 has a stable aluminum stay and frame sheet that can be easily removed by weight conscious hikers, taking 6 oz. out of the overall pack weight. Getting it Right Getting it right sometimes means ...
